The Economist team hosted a wine appreciation night for wine enthusiasts in the industry, including media partners and clients, in Singapore on 4 March at the Universal Wine Bar and Restaurant.
Its no secret that the Singaporean media industry is dominated by women and it looked like an all girls event until a few male executives from Starcom, MEC and Mediacom turned up to prove the assumption wrong. Conspicuously absent were representatives from MindShare, MPG and UM.
The highlight of the well-attended event was the introduction of New World wines from an estate called Urlar in New Zealand which produces organic wines. The owner of the estate, Angus Thompson, took the rapt wine-lovers through a tasting of four wines with food pairings while he explained the principles of biodynamic farming.
A light hearted quiz was the other highlight of the event. Fiona Sim, client service director of Carat Singapore, was the big winner and walked away with a three-night stay at the Banyan Tree Resort in Phuket. The tie-breaker, answered correctly by Fiona, asked a very obvious question: What is The Economist’s circulation in Asia-Pacific? Good one Fiona!
Two other lucky winners were Ranja Niemi of the communications division at Nokia Siemens Networks and Low Shueh Li, senior manager of Global Solutions at MEC. Both walked away with a two-night stay at the Banyan Tree Resort in Bangkok plus two bottles of Urlar wines each.
